Environmental issues on the Central Coast

Up until the 28 February 2019 the Central Coast Council has placed on exhibition the Consolidation of all Planning Instruments. This involves a review of all Local Environmental Plans and Development Control Plans for the former Gosford City Council and the former Wyong Shire Council.

On Exhibition until 28th February 2019.

Central Coast Council is preparing:

  1. A Consolidated Local Environment Plan which joins the Wyong and Gosford Zoning Plans together;
  2. A Consolidated Development Control Plan to consolidate the rules.

The goal is to:

  • improve our local environment,
  • encourage investment,
  • create new jobs and quality housing;

for the growing population of the Central Coast.

CEN has sought changes to protect the COSS lands through rezoning to E5, however, this has been refused. It is difficult to see what improvements occur to our local environment through this consolidation, when it allows; subdivision of conservation lands; intensive agriculture in the water catchment and removal of height controls.

CEN is very concerned at the approach adopted to the Consolidation, for example:

  1. Rezoning 120 lots from 7(a) which is equivalent to E2 to E3 or E4. This will allow significant subdivision in some rural areas;
  2. Allowing extensive/intensive agriculture in RU1 and RU2 zones in Wyong. This could allow increased run off from livestock into the drinking water supply;
  3. Reduction in minimum lot sizes from 550 sq metres to 450 sq metres (an increase of 1,147 lots);
  4. Reducing the minimum lot size in E4 land from 4 Ha. to 2 Ha.;
  5. Removing building height controls on R2 land in Wamberal, Terrigal, Avoca, Copacabana, Macmasters and Kilcare.
