Climate Update – The Ocean

April 1 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Free
The 3rd Forum of the Series, this Free event includes 2 Presentations and finishes with a Panel Session/Discussion.
Our Guest Speaker (TBA) will present on the changing Ocean and how it impacts on our weather. 90% of the additional heat energy trapped each year goes into the ocean waters. Many of our strongest extreme events are driven by the warming surface waters of the ocean. The costs of damage and the huge recovery efforts needed can weigh heavily on the community and our economy. The affects of a big event like Cyclone Alfred flow through to all of us, not least increasing our cost of living.
Richard Weller will present about the latest climate news and discuss the ramping up of extreme events and what policies are needed. Appropriate policies for the 1990’s or even the 2010’s are no longer suitable because the effort to cut emissions globally has so far failed to stop greenhouse gas concentrations rising. You will hear what we need to do now to achieve the Paris goals.
The final session will be a Panel discussion and question session.
Come and learn about how our climate is changing, what might be in store and how we must react.
