WildVenture Habitat Planting at Central Coast Wetlands

The Central Coast Wetlands wildlife corridor planting is located along the banks of Pioneer Creek, a former cow paddock. Restoration along this area commenced just over five years ago in two stages. The third and final stage will fill in a treeless gap along Pioneer Creek and link previously restored habitat with remnant vegetation along Wyong River.

Highlights

• Search for migratory birds at the Dairy Swamp viewing pergola
• Learn about the importance of forested wetland ecosystems and the biodiversity value of Central Coast Wetlands
• Learn about the local population of Squirrel Gliders and Sugar Gliders and target restoration approaches to support these species
• Explore beautiful regenerated 18 year old forest
• Plant a mix of up to 1000 trees, shrubs and some groundcovers which will fill a gap between wildlife corridors and link vegetation along the Wyong River floodplain
• Boost threatened species habitat across a 2ha area, key focus species are the Swift Parrot, Regent Honeyeater and Squirrel Glider.

Transport options: A shuttle can be arranged from Wyong train station for those arriving on public transport.

Please Note: The WildVenture program is intended for young adults (18-35), the Central Coast Wetlands will be running other planting opportunites for all ages later in the year.

The restoration project this event is supporting, including all trees, is funded by the Greater Sydney Local Land Services to restore habitat for the Swift Parrot and Regent Honeyeater.
